"Completed" can be confusing to new users and much less explicit than "ended", would likely remove some confusion about why a title isn't completely scanlated and be more explicit about it

To be clear what I mean is that for new users, seeing "completed" on a title could mean that the title is fully translated just like you'd "complete" a videogame, rather than a game just ending

Publication: 2023, Completed
I don't personally see how it might be confusing. It says that it's the publication that is complete which is self-explanatory, in my opinion. Or am I missing something?

I just typed "difference between complete and end" on google because I don't consider myself a linguist qualified enough to correct you, and google just told me exactly what I was trying to say but couldn't: “Complete” as a verb has a similar meaning to “finish,” but instead of just “to end,” it means “finish making or doing something in its entirety.”

So ended doesn't specify where it ended, completed is the correct word indeed.

I suppose by "Completed" that you're referring to the "completed" with a blue dot near the tags of a manga page? It's goal isn't to tell you anything regarded to scanlation, but to the publication status of the story in the original country.

(I typed "scanlation def english"): "Scanlation (also scanslation) is the fan-made scanning, translation, and editing of comics from a language into another language."

To remove the confusion about completed scanlation and just completed in the country of origin, I don't have much ideas, I suppose it's not something very hard to fix though (if it deserves a better explanation than just completed with a blue dot).

@Aboideau
I know what the tag means, and that's precisely it. it's that the series stopped publishing because the story itself ended, whereas completed, which on a scan website to users who don't know yet could mean that it's the scans that are completed not the work

That's true.
I was trying to dispel any misunderstandings if there were any and make sure we were talking about the same thing.

Though if they can't find anything to read even after seeing the "completed", that's probably when they understand it's not the scanlation that's completed.

I feel completed also allows for the possibility of the author coming back and making some side/after-stories as they wont to do, while ended implies the author completely dropped it.
