This is a good story, and a precautionary tale.

The dude is a fucking pussy, and a manipulator. In real life he’d be the bad guy 100%. I know we throw the word “rape” around here as jokes a lot but what he did here was unforgivable, even if the heroine did forgive him in a moment of her weakness.

What he did will just torment him for years to come, its not about karma, its about emotion and psyche. The girl will just move on because she now has genuine love in her life to look forward to and cut the dude off her life. While he literally shot himself in the foot. He will not stop thinking about her for years to come and then come to regret his life choice later. Its extremely hard to let go of someone you have shared a bond with, you will always miss the warmth and the pleasure of your partner after all.

1. you have to learn to let go peacefully and move on
2. childhood friend is for love, not a privilege, you have to let them go, for yourself if not for them.

MC was weak.
In a typical hentailand fashion he could have solved this easily using tactical blackmail and some more rape.

This story just rubs me the wrong way (duh) but with a little bit of reworking this could be a top tier one-shot

I understand those who think he's a rapist and doesn't deserve pity; that's what happens. But it's important to reflect on the point even more. I saw it a long time ago, so I only remember a few things, but after rereading it several times, I tried to think about it differently. The protagonist lost his mother in childhood, during a developmental stage, to another man, having to suffer the bullying of not having a mother along with the loneliness. But that void was filled by his childhood friend. It wasn't all bad. The fact that his childhood friend suddenly got a boyfriend, and having romantic feelings, probably triggered the stage where he lost his mother. With that feeling, he was becoming desperate. He thought about enduring as much as he could, even though his childhood friend didn't notice his declining state. He was truly afraid of losing her. The fact of having lost his mother left him with that trauma, that fear. What was he going to do then? A risky move; confessing would have failed. What he did—rape her—wasn't for carnal pleasure, but to try to reach her feelings. In the end, he decides to distance himself from her after hurting what he loved. He's most likely completely broken now. After all, he's a bad person. He'll feel like he lost his childhood friend, just like he lost his mother to another man, along with the fact that he's a monster. If he'd had a normal childhood, perhaps he wouldn't have depended on her so much, and he wouldn't have assaulted her. But that's the story, and that's okay. It's good to see a story where the protagonist is ultimately broken. His childhood friend will probably suffer the consequences of trying to reconcile the assault with her lifelong friend, unable to replace the image she has of him with that of her assailant.
