Hello anime watchers! You may notice two things - one is that the sequence of events here is quite different from the anime's, and two, this chapter is the entire final episode, minus the last 1 minute.

This is also the ending of Volume 3 of the LN. I'm 99% sure that we'll get to see Volume 4 getting adapted starting from the next chapter, as opposed to being skipped in the anime. The last 1% is that they somehow adapt the last 1 minute into an entire final chapter. There's probably at least 1 more chapter before we have enough for Volume 7, so we'll likely be hearing about that next month.

Oh man. I think we always knew it was gonna be like this, but it's still shocking to see it actually happen. A lot of people had the right theories about what was really going on. I wonder, if the replicas disappear, will their affection for each other affect the originals, and then the originals start dating?

The "stealing an emotion from the original" makes soooooooooo much sense, though. It's why the replicas seemed like ideal selves.

You can't get away with claiming they're essentially split personalities, that don't show up when observed in two places at once since there is only one body, since people literally saw replica girl get runover by a train, and didn't one of the non-main pair get caught by their parents having a second them?

I was gonna write a notes page about this, but it got too long.

One of the theory Satou Kozue brought up during this conversation (which got cut from the manga) is that, what likely happened with Suzumi's mother isn't that she got ill due to seeing both the original and the doppleganger. Rather, Satou suspected it likely went something like this:

While walking Suzumi (which is actually her doppleganger) to school, the real one started chasing from behind. At that moment, suddenly the Suzumi who she was walking with disappeared, replaced with an identical one who was running from behind. Suzumi (real one) then likely tried to explain to her mom that the doppleganger is right next to her mother, which, her mother, not being able to see the doppleganger (due to already seeing the original Suzumi), thought that she (or her daughter) went insane and fell sick.

It somewhat links to what Taeko said on Page 3 of this chapter as well.

Didn't they also have multiple observations upon them throughout this simultaneous trip? Didn't the disappearance of the body also happen in front of everybody?

I think the intended reading is more that they can’t show up in the SAME place. Sunao and Sanada being very careful about it and never leaving their rooms is only important in the fact that it means there could be no accidental observations of the replica and the original together (even just casually in the kitchen with their family).
I think as long as there’s any “ambiguity” or “possibility” such as with the phone call, the two existences can both be present, but once you put them together, the more fundamental existence of the original will always “win out”. the replicas have a physical reality/body, it just can’t be perceived if the original is there (though I would have liked to see them test this a little more, like have Nao pick up rocks and throw them into the water…what would observers see happen?)

Cool that the manga has yet again caught up with the anime! I haven't read Volume 4 of the light novel yet (though I have bought it) so the next chapter being something all new sounds pretty exciting to me!

Edit: I also wanted to add that while Nao and Aki may have been originally synthesized out of their originals' positive traits, I think it's still important to not that Sunao has proven to still be capable of kindness and consideration, even if it's not as much as Nao's, and Sanada still has courage and didn't just become some comical coward the moment he created Aki.

I think that while this theory may be true, Nao and Aki don't need to return to their originals per se, even if that is the direction this series may be heading towards.

yeah, I see it as more like “they lose the habit of practicing the trait” rather than “it becomes impossible for them to do” (we also saw with Ryo what happens when the original changes their mind and says “wait, I can do it myself”)
the replicas “exist to do what the original couldn’t” and I think that being essentially forced to practice “kindness” or “confidence” just leads to them being better at it. Nao to make up with a friend, Aki to show up despite the difficulty. (so Nao is only pushed by nature to be “kind to” Sunao, but the constant practice makes it easier for her to be kind to others and take on their burdens as well. Aki is only pushed by nature to “show up” in Sanada’s place, but practicing the show of confidence over and over means that it’s also easier for him to be confident at other times. meanwhile Sanada for example is practicing “avoidance,” which will lead to him struggling to break that pattern. Sunao is maybe practing “disinterest” more than unkindness, like “nothing really matters because if it gets hard then Nao will do it.” but she’s doing a good job of trying to fix it.)
the gap is in some ways more obvious with Nao/Sunao because they started younger

I personally think the main mental difference between replicas and originals is that replicas experience a drive to “help the original” that can overcome any normal mental blocks that would otherwise be experienced. in many ways that makes it easier for them to be the “ideal self” that the original strives for.
