I'd say it's part of the whole "don't give him work and make them quit" thing japan does.
Being transferred out to the middle of nowhere on it's own would mean that they did something wrong, throw in the board and even just one person who knows someone from the mainland branch and you've got all the pieces to the puzzle.

Yes it's most likely Line, but who pays for texts these days? Like it's either Line if you're Japanese, iMessage if you're American and Whatsapp if you're anywhere else. CMIIW but all of that uses internet instead of SMS/MMS.

Every moment a feel bad for him, i remember he could avoid all this shit if he just divorced.

He could be the sucessful in a high position if he just divorced sumire and he could mantain his job if he divorced Karin, but he prefered the "easy" having affair instead of the divorce. Now Karin is in mainland using his money, his new "lover" left him to rot in this forgotten place and his career is "tained" by this realocation.

To people who love gossiping about other person life, don't matter if is true, just matter how scandalous is the gossip. The story will grown every time someone talk about it, every gossiper putting another "detail" in the story

lol yeah, altho idk how often the 'neighbors' get involved versus the company but yeah be sucky. altho if you live on the island willingly and have a bit of pride i can imagine someone that just messed up work wise but had a clean private life would prolly be offended if a good worker was like 'can't believe i'm stuck in the boonies' bc even a remote place still needs workers, but i wonder if those other two coworkers are locals or also transferred b/c of incompetence. versus finding themselves lucky they get to take it easy versus two older men semi retired since it still seems like an office job versus some physical warehouse job of them exporting their items to the main city or so.
