Gu or jincan, (lit. "gold silkworm") was
a venom-based poison associated with cultures of south China, particularly Nanyue. The traditional
preparation of gu poison involved sealing several venomous creatures (e.g., centipede, snake, scorpion) inside a closed container, where they devoured one another and allegedly concentrated their
toxins into a single survivor.
Gu was used in black magic practices such as manipulating sexual partners, creating malignant diseases, and causing death. According to Chinese folklore, a gu spirit could transform into various animals, typically a worm, caterpillar, snake, frog, dog, or pig.
"蛊 Trad. 蠱
gǔ
arch. legendary venomous insect
to poison
to bewitch
to drive to insanity
to harm by witchcraft
intestinal parasite"
Pay attention to the bolded. The gu is the poison. The poison is a gateway for everything else
including the other stuff you quoted. All of these are connected to that
poison[/b]. Therefore using the word "poison" is correct. There's no need to go further in your definition game. IT IS WHAT IT IS. Yes, Gu is the family name in the manga...so it makes sense to use the word "Gu". Thats why it makes perfect sense to just replace the "gu" with poison or use the damn right words depending on the context. This brings me back to my original post-what the hell was the guy referring to then when he said 'bring your biggest gu'? Biggest poison? Biggest bewitch? Biggest drive to insanity? Biggest witchcraft? Biggest intestinal Parasite? You see how you(the writer) fuck yourself up by not being specific? If it's poison, use the damn English word. If it's witchcraft, USE THE DAMN WORD. Thats my gripe with this manga and this chapter slapped me in the face and made even more obvious. Not only does it sound funny it's just not a practical way to express things. Once again, UNLIKE QI which there are NO English words to translate into...it makes perfect sense to use QI but gu just like you mentioned can be all things thats associated with POISON.
I've spent too much time on clarifying even when both of us have the definition in front of us. I don't know what the issue is, really. I'm done with this arc in my life. Have a Gu day. lol
