Not sure what's hard to follow. One thing I guess might be confusing people is there are two characters in the chapter with short hair that could be getting mixed up? There's Yuriko (who is Rin's friend) and Mika (the girl who was targeted by the monster)

I can't really judge whether it's promising or not.
It's Shounen with notable shounen shenanigans.

I came here to complain about what a bloody mess the layout were, and found that various other readers were already doing so.

Did this awful, entropic style start with the Japanese and get imported by the Britons with 2000 AD, or was it the other way around?

The complaints are about god-awful layout. It's like trying to watch a movie in which the director changed cameræ and angles at random, and then edited the film so that the image moves and expands and contracts likewise randomly within the view-frame. Layout should not make the audience work unless the story is somehow supposed to be hard to understand.

Why is every page literally just motion motion motion? Why are there so many god damn close ups? And why are there SO MANY ANGLED perspectives instead of just traditional straight eye-line frames.

It's like this manga is trying to do shaky cam.

I don't understand what the author has against just letting the characters sit still for a few frames instead of immediately smashing their faces into closeups or why not draw them moving like normal people instead of using dramatic lens flare every few seconds ?

Also, the dialogue is TERRIBLE. Nothing of use is said for a LOT of the frames and word bubbles, I honestly felt bored.

I agree. This manga's art is nauseating because of the way he/she draws or implies motion. This is the artists 1st series according the manga updates, the inexperience shows I think.

Entropic layout is probably most often a result of inexperience, but I've also seen it as an affectation. It's a poor choice in almost any case; but, when an inexperienced artist sees chaotic layout in published work, he or she might think it something to emulate.

There are actual courses and books that teach the principles of telling stories with sequential illustrations, including principles of layout. This mangaka would benefit from reading Making Comics by Scott McCloud or his earlier Understanding Comics.
