how can we have some kingdom on the verge of discovering guns while another cant fucking make glass
Oh, I hadn’t even noticed that. One possibility is that one continent evolved faster than another. And that actually happened in our own world. Remember that China once had technology far more advanced than Europe’s. Many of the technologies we in the West credit to Europeans had already been used in China long before.

Not to mention some quite curious cases, like cities of Indigenous peoples in the Americas that had very advanced sewage and paving systems, and even more advanced knowledge of astronomy than Europeans. Yet, for example, they hadn’t discovered the wheel. So, that could be the case here as well.

glass was discovered long long long before guns (prehistory) by many cultures and if they can have early 1600s clothing surely theyd have figured glass out but idk maybe the sand they have sucks for glass

Yeah. I’m trying to make the story plausible. Maybe there’s some detail in the story that I’ve already forgotten that explains why glass hasn’t been invented yet. The only plausible explanation I’ve found so far is really the difference in technological advancement between the southern and northern continents. Notice that on page 25 and 26, the MC questions exactly this. I think the technology of the northern continent is more advanced than that of the south:

MC: These glass windows may be playing a large part in regards to the temperature. They keep the cold air out while allowing sunlight into the room. On days like this where the weather is good and the air is cold, I'm thankful they exist. Did Uppsala also have glass making technology? If we talked to Princess Freya about glass, It would inevitably lead to marbles being used as bestowal magic mediums, so definitely not.
