well I guess considering the theme of the series was mc got through on willpower alone, us seeing him exhibit a little strength is weird to most and a turn off. It's a shounen so I expected it. To me, that one month is enough to get the edge on someone if he has the talent as we see here, but I'm pretty sure next chapter rikudou will be put back down again. I think the enemy is just hella underestimating rikudou which lead to the situation we see by the end of this chapter. Plus, rikudou definetly had some basic stuff ingrained into him before hand through all his encounters with people who fought a lot.

So long story short, rikudou can't win but his talent, experience getting hit, and the fact that the enemy is possibly exhausted from fighting already and understimating rikduou allows him to take the upper hand here.

Whatever do you mean lmao the MC has been training intermittently several times during this series. He's been trained by Iinuma, Ranna, and now Ling Lan. He literally has been trying to get stronger on his own this entire series. You'd have to have been asleep for 124 chapters to think he "suddenly" has talent.

I am a little confused at people hating that he is doing okay against this dude.

Like a number of other people have said, he's been dealing with this kind of shit from Ranna and Iinuma and...the tiny girl...through fights and other stuff so he's toughened up an extremely large amount since the beginning of the series. Even then, the entire point of the flashback is that he hates violence and never commits himself to attacking which is why she yells at him. He's great at dodging and defense since up until now he's always run or taken a beating but he never actually tried very hard to fight anyone. After all this, it's more about the effort he's now putting in.

This is one of the farthest examples away from an asspull that I can think of. It's constantly been built up.

Should also be noted that a blank slate could be more easily trained in some cases. Someone with a lot of training would need to unlearn bad habits on top of everything else
