Just FYI, outfits like Triad Securities and Blackwater (or whatever they're calling themselves now), are overwhelmingly made up of US military vets.
Mercenary Private Security firms don't like hiring guys with absolutely no training, or those who couldn't actually make it in the service, because either A) they spend money training the civilian, or B) they have to deal with whatever disqualified the guy from military service.
I should also mention that a good number of these combat vets have some form of PTSD. They don't go back to war cause they like it, they go back cause they can't come home.
Got a buddy who was doing a security guard cert course with me. Was an Army sniper. Fucking on pills all the time cause anything can set him off. Going to the range for pistol cert was rough on him; jumpy as hell, always on a swivel, had to keep reminding himself that it wasn't Iraq. Heard later that Blackwater signed him up for something like $75k bonus.
Yeah not all mercs are for greed and gold. There's definitely more than a few, but a good chunk are there cause what are they going to do in normal society with skills to murder 10 guys in their sleep, snipe targets over the horizon, clear a building of hostiles and reflexes that can kill someone trying to pat you on the back?
They fucking turn you into a killing machine, but they don't try to turn you back. They send you to where death from a mortar, or IED, or little kids with guns, but they don't try to fix you when you're out.
"Good job, serving the nation. Now get out of here and rejoin your family that have no idea what you went through, gung-ho assholes ask about killing all the time and bleeding hearts call you a mass murderer."
