@hamster91 I'd bet in most Western countries the people themselves would try to avoid it, be it legal or not, socially acceptable or not. If you look at the prevalence map, it's quite clear. In the more distant past one reason why it might have happened (and still does in some developing countries) was to keep the wealth in the family. That's not really an issue or reason these days in the developed countries, I reckon.
