I get he was desperate and he wanted both of them. She should have understood, at least a little bit, that he had been searching for HER all that time. When he arrived he was looking for HER and had no idea she had his child. He just wanted her back and the child ended up as an added bonus…and something he could use as leverage since he was desperate to get her back.

It would’ve been sweet if he just told her the truth. Gosh why can’t people communicate properly.
