I wonder if his ring could help him somehow? Also, he has to leave this city, it's no good because of the oppression. Then again, there's no guarantee other cities would be better. Sigh.

She is indeed very suspicious. But she seemed to be unconscious, so there must be a trigger of some sort for her to wake up and take action.
That aside, I'm really curious about her.

wowee this is interesting. I suspect the ring will be OP and with some threats to the life of a few nobles, they wont have a choice but to let him join. He could start over with some other business, but I don't think things would change, they would still arrest or kill him even outside the city. I suspect he will either fight them with magic or some noble will stand behind him for a stake in his company. Nobles like money after all, and a smart one would recognize that he might have more business ideas. If his businesses can take over more things then that is more money for whoever invested in him.
