Interesting, I'm not sure what to make of this adaptation yet. It's curious they're doing the story again from Episode 1, but changing some details. The backgrounds and panel work are kind of artsy, not necessarily in a bad way. The paneling does seem a little awkward and stilted, but the character designs are crisp in the middle of it. The action panels looked frozen despite their framing, maybe because they didn't have any action lines? It stood out, but those scenes we kind of just wooshed by so hopefully dedicated action scenes will look smoother.
Ruby is much more outspoken here compared to the show! She talks back to Weiss, and actually tells the audience more about herself. It makes her a lot more protagonist-like, because she still seems like an awkward kid but she's far more assertive and sure of her dreams. I seriously like that.
