I imagine it worked better as a novel. I'm struggling to put it into words, but it just felt weird as a manga, like the pacing was off or something. However, I did somewhat enjoy it by the end. Volumes 3 and 4 were better. At the end of Volume 3, they mention that it was originally plotted as 3 volumes but then expanded into 4, so perhaps that's exactly what I was feeling. Anyway, I wonder if we'll get mangas for the next 3 (not directly connected) books.
