After reading it all I'm a bit confused. Does she have nobody she could confide in? No parents? No home town? No nothing? She had to get that orb from somewhere before, right?
This just seems like terrible writing just to force romantic comedy moments between the two.

If memory serves, if she returns without the orb, or having revealed her true form to someone human, she'll basically be forced to return to their own society and remain there the rest of her life, having failed the test to be able to live in or otherwise go between their world and the human world. So trying to confide in family about what happened would backfire massively, especially since she's all-but-stated to be the same dragon-girl the MC saw as a kid, with a large helping of "looking for long lost childhood crush".
