Marilyn: "Your flimsy forbidden magic circle and that brat's hero attribute will never beat my Plot Armor power, demon."

Well...this certainly explains why she could suppress Regina and Etra in chapter 53

That doesn't really make sense either because if the effect is "perpetuated until the caster decides to turn off the switch", then disabling the caster (which the demon states here as a valid solution) wouldn't do anything either, because nobody would willingly disable their magic for the opponent that killed them. The death of the caster force disables the circle, which implies there is a connection between the caster and circle, if the circle is able to detect that death, which a total neutralization of magic could easily be written as emulating.

I would say there's no reason to not think Etra has to constantly send some amount of magic to her circle, either. Requiring a constant connection doesn't mean she has to constantly be funneling tons of magic to it. Like a program that needs an internet connection just so it can validate a license, you could easily write hers the same way, as having some kind of magical flow from her to it, but still minimal.
I've reread just in case and nowhere does the demon state that disabling the caster is a valid option; Merryl does say that "neutralizing the caster" is the way to go but doesn't elaborate on what that exactly means, might mean knocking out, killing them or literally anything else.
There's, indeed, enough info to say that there's definitely some kind of connection remaining between caster and circle, but not enough to fully understand how substantial that connection is.
The laws of the world are just not clear enough yet, so I simply tried to rationalize it as best as I could with the information available to us.

If anything, I'm surprised it's even this rational.
When it comes to magic, some stories just throw shit at the wall to make anything stick.

It's kinda funny how they had to make up that weird "desire nullifies desire" explanation for why his circle got deleted, instead of just being like "yeah the caster has to be neutralized, right? I've made it so you can't cast magic, right? That means your link to it's been neutralized, too."
Could it be that they said that because a few chapters ago they put up a new magic circle, and the new one might erase the effects of the one they put up years ago to make people forget about Kaiser? So other people might remember him and what happened when he quit being a adventurer?

I'm pretty sure the 'eliminate the caster' thing relates to the mind control strings - not the magic circles. Kill the caster to release the thralls.

Respect for uploading three chapters of this arc at once, thanks
Yeah sorry we fell so far behind. Our group maintains a ton of different series.

I was the proofreader for this series and have to say I’m hooked. I really want to know where they go with this.

Also it’s for my job specifically it’s a lot easier to proofread multiple chapters at once because it can be easy to forget relevant history/plot devices/names when too much time passes between releases

Hope you’re all enjoying it!

Yeah, looking at it again I think I was mixing up the demon himself talking about Meryl possibly undoing his brainwashing magic by killing him (which is more obviously connected to him) with Etra saying the bit about neutralizing the forbidden circle in chapter 54. But as you said, Etra's potential ideas of neutralizing are all stuff that's splitting the guy off from the magic against his will, which implies some kinda connection there.

ngl the whole forbidden magic circle angle has be down on this manga a lot ever since it was first introduced, just feels like the most obvious plot convenience tool with apperently no downside.

Don't rush the releases, this chapter had much worse translation than the previous two chapters, it's clear the rush is negatively impacting the translation quality. Other than that, thank's for the translations!

Wow, this guy was bad at his job

Despite being from the intelligence division, he seemingly had no info about how the heroes power actually worked, about his target’s father, or about the headmaster of the school he was attacking.

Now we finally got the main plot..

So this heroes party named Blue Flash and they successfully either beat or seal demon king. One member, Marilyn gained immortality and built magic academy to nurture promising magicians. Seven hundred years later, heroes' descendant live in a small remote village. Another promising new party with Kaiser, Regina, and Etna gained some famous deeds. For unknown reason, a calamity dragon got unleashed into the village where heroes' descendant live after Kaiser did some quest nearby. Kaiser failed to save the village but secured three babies from that village. Kaiser retired, Etna removed memories, Regina took over the adventuring work alone. Then we got into the start of chapter 1.

I think we have a solid background story now. The daughters should take more central focus in story from now on.
