@Chaosbreak it is olympics, also you were thinking about animators, they are of the same root as illustrators but they aren't doing the same thing. Illustrators are like celebrity, a product will get noticed easily if you have top tier famous illustrator working for it, so it is obvious newbie illustrators will just get a scraps, with the amount of good illustrators out there, the amount of people who will notice you is very limited. Some people are willing to scout a potential newbies to cut budget (often paid in exposure), or when the project is high risk project where you can't afford to use famous illustrators. So like I said earlier, becoming virtual avatar is one of the best way to advertise yourself, especially these days when comiket is being held online.
