Crazy how you can just take casually take people to the hospital for a standard fever in other countries. Here in the US the poor kid would've been absolutely shafted by the bill; better to stay home and recover instead.

Edit: Although I guess if it's an urgent care clinic it'd still work. Still an easy $100-150 down the drain tho, minimum

Japan has a National Healthcare System, so when someone who's normally strong and healthy (teenagers-middle aged) gets sick, going to the hospital isn't a big deal.
I agree that the dude was overreacting, but pro-active treatment ensures the best outcomes.

Most countries do, but you don't need a fucking IV drip for a cold unless you're in a risk group, no matter how extensive your public health care system is. That's just plain wasteful and superstitious.
