@basket66. The original oneshot featured literally just MC and Saguri and was about them exploring. She was also the school Madonna and hiding her enthusiasm for exploring from her classmates. Think Komi-san with a hidden hobby.

The serialization has changed quite a lot about Saguri as a character, how the MC interacts with her, introduced a second girl who literally professed her love for the MC, introduced the most generic tsundere I have seen in years and generally sterilized the mood from the oneshot.

The disdain isn't how it's changed since chapter 1 but how it's changed since the oneshot. It's like the editor said to the author "yeah we'll serialize this BUT only if you add more waifus". Honestly, how many of the new characters HAD to be female? Why not introduce another dude if they just want to expand the cast? The fact they didn't and the newest character is sooo incredibly archetypal just shows their reasoning, pandering.

So this is being dropped because harem trash. Okay. I don't agree with it personally, but that's their decision.

...so why is Atsumare! Fushigi Kenkyu-bu still being translated? That should have probably been dropped first?

Nah, it was dropped because the translator of the group had her hands full with other projects, the group wouldn't be able to release it in a consistent manner so it was decided to be dropped at chapter 14 but one last effort was made and chapter 15 was released. No need to sperg over this. Just find some group with not that many projects and ask them to pick this up.
