It's not just that they are jobbing (well they are low level). It's also the MC being an absolute fucking retard.
While he was sitting on his ass trying to kiss the asses of some NPCs and keeping the "game plot" going, that very plot has already been destryed and the actual important people to the actual worlds ending are about to be killed (the protag and the gang). It's sheer luck that his sister happened to find them. This is legit infuriating.

as someone who reads the novel, and checked the raws for the manga, this is the one fight that is really underwhelming on the manga, because on the Novel, there is no ¨Kikuchi" whatever his name was, but Kano helping from the start.

Kano not only is the main helper, starting from the start, she got this awesome illustration with her massive dual magic hammers (used for whack a'mole), lightning and fire, which she dual wields "to play pinball" in this "boss fight" against the enemy leader.

Too bad, that does not exists in the manga version.

It is underwhelming because the mangaka wants to make Kaoru look more like a main heroine, so she has to shine here...
In the novel, she's more like an "observer" sort of, but looking at the whole situation from the NPC's perspective.

I swear that the whole class has an alarm clock that goes "IT'S JOBBING TIME" while the MC has a clock that says "it's useless o'clock" twice a day.

I guess it's easier to make miserable characters for readers to sympathize, but no one roots for jobbers. Make heroes likeable again!
