I'm so annoyed I found this series now because it's a fun series to binge but absolutely infuriating to read waiting for each chapter. I really enjoy the internal thoughts the focus character has each chapter but the aggressive use of that monologuing and the fact that the story likes to constantly cut scenes early so they can come back to them later from another's perspective grinds progress to a halt.

is it just me or did they casually add another theme to the series to use as a plot device? why was he suddenly a PK player when most of Chapter 1 showcased him fighting monsters solo? kinda feels forced.

The players who completed a special in-game event (that started with dropping a dragon on the stage and decimating the playerbase, making winning almost as much luck as skill) were promised access to a “beta”. Accepting the terms for that is what landed him, and clearly others who made it through also, here. It was outside of that event that he played as a PK.
