Ah, thank you, I came here specifically to say this. Many people are getting the two backwards / mixed up lately. On page 14, both instances of "horde" should actually be "hoard".
They're not going to do that. The problem here is an actual shortage of physical tokens to do transactions with, and no real way of getting enough tokens that people know and recognise in circulation.Okay, my economy knowledge is dogshit, but the same problem happened once before, right? Mansa Musa literally broke the entire Middle East economy for years by throwing a huge amount of gold ingot into the market. Throwing a massive load of coins into a market from dragon hoard, wouldn't that gonna break the market?
Nah, Smaug was the dumbass. What happens if a massive store of gold is unearthed? A large hoard with diverse currency means you're fine regardless of what happens to the supply."Bro your mountain of treasure was made of copper coins? broke ass aah Dragon, i would never" - Smaug probably
Why diversify when you can double down on the most rare noble metal used for currency, which is also used as a prime magic component? it is not like he is poor!Nah, Smaug was the dumbass. What happens if a massive store of gold is unearthed? A large hoard with diverse currency means you're fine regardless of what happens to the supply.
Maybe the giant has the minting material? They're not going to do that. The problem here is an actual shortage of physical tokens to do transactions with, and no real way of getting enough tokens that people know and recognise in circulation.
The hoard conveniently has a lot of small change of a coinage people recognise and use, so they intend to make up the shortfall in physical coins from that without flooding the economy with them.
The only other option would be minting new coins, but they haven't got the materials and the facilities for that.
Now....What happened to dodging a Giant, and how the ruddy hell did that devolve into an economy 101 lecture?
I'm so excited, and I'm being completely serious about that! Finally, a chapter with wild, edge of your seat mercantile coinage discussion.
