It's a good example of the author going "fine I'll make the setting an isekai because it's the only thing that sells right now, but you won't realize it because I'll ignore it except for about three panels on one page in the first chapter." There are the bits about "prior life" but that could just as easily be reincarnation or something else and not affect the story at all. This is honestly peak traditional fantansy, and it handles fantansy prests so well.
Well the isekai actually plays a pretty big part, because Will's personality is shaped by it quite a lot. It's a good example of the author going "fine I'll make the setting an isekai because it's the only thing that sells right now, but you won't realize it because I'll ignore it except for about three panels on one page in the first chapter." Like I said... it could just as easily be "my prior life was a waste and I want this to be better" or even "I used to be a loser but now I'm actually trying", and still have the same story beats. It's an isekai because that's whats selling right now, but it literally didn't have to be.Well the isekai actually plays a pretty big part, because Will's personality is shaped by it quite a lot.
So you mean like reincarnated in the same world? Would still change his character. From just knowing stuff that no one taught him, because he was alive before (even if he was alive a long time ago), to just being different types of loser. In this isekai version he was pretty much a nothingness, in a reincarnated in the same world he would have had to be something, because otherwise he wouldn't survive long. Like a thief or something along those lines. I actually feel like this is one of the nicer uses of isekai.Like I said... it could just as easily be "my prior life was a waste and I want this to be better" or even "I used to be a loser but now I'm actually trying", and still have the same story beats. Personally I'm looking forward to the whole otaku pandering wank genre to die off anyways, and works like this show it's an unnecessary plot element.
that's hilarious I was just about to write thisI can somehow picture Gracefeel pouting as she pinched his cheek...
works like you just described do exist but they kinda pander in different ways but yeah the use of Isekai and reincarnation in this story is excellent because it doesn't beat us over the head with it and relies more upon one the story and world more so than the genre to carry the series for plot, story, and world-building also the "Divine" support that Will receives is also very interesting in how it's so limited but also not useless to the situations he finds himself in.So you mean like reincarnated in the same world? time to necropost =D (hey that fits in with this chapter)works like you just described do exist but they kinda pander in different ways but yeah the use of Isekai and reincarnation in this story is excellent because it doesn't beat us over the head with it and relies more upon one the story and world more so than the genre to carry the series for plot, story, and world-building also the "Divine" support that Will receives is also very interesting in how it's so limited but also not useless to the situations he finds himself in.
For Hundreds of Years I lay Dormant who has awake- Oh hmm yeah I got to agree with this and yes "killing people for no reason is bad" but when you think about the situation as a whole and realize oh the reason is something I would thinking about it does get surreal.time to necropost =D (hey that fits in with this chapter)
but yea I agree the use of Isekai and reincarnation makes the story better but for a different reason being the ground point for morals allowing us (readers) to better get infested in the world/character faster
sometimes I feel a disconnect from in-world characters as I feel like our moral compass is off due to us having different worlds even if there is nothing wrong with it (get this for most of history most people think killing other people for no reason is bad)
