The thing is, there was absolutely no reason to do that even from a "Secure the Boss at all costs" viewpoint.
If Touma had cut the bridge himself when they had finished crossing, the monsters would have fallen off then.
And if some monsters had climbed up the cut bridge, they would easily have been dispatched, since the issue wasn't their strenght, but their numbers. Hell, even fighting on the other side of the bridge would have been easy.
These guys just threw their jobs away (and probably earned a beating too) for no good reason.

I mean the thing is, they're probably set up by HER to deal with the party if they didn't die in the dungeon.

Like she's all "I'm the demon lord" but she has literally done nothing except uplift sad women and help them fulfill their dreams and even prevented a kid from dying. Like all she does is stalk the MC and try to set him up on adventure dates with fantasy women in the disguise of "party crushing". There's no way this Chuuni is able to pull all these strings for all these women and not have the results be intentional.

it's only stupid if they are not being influenced by MC's EX. im surprised no one here reached that conclusion we all assume her target was the knight lady but if she corrupted the bodyguard duo then their actions make sense with weak justification.

Thanks for the chapter. Those two bodyguards better be mind controlled or in cahoots with the demoness lord because otherwise they literally tried to off the two that saved their bosses' sister, literally the ones that their boss was very willing to just give all the reward money to. If that ends up not being the case, then this was the most hamfisted way to remake that girl's trauma I've every seen.

Of all things to happen, why not the "Too many monsters try to cross the bridge which crumbles with the weight so our MC falls with htem" ? Instead we got the most braindead excuse to make them fall.

i mean, true

i understand the idea likely was to make the parallel to the healer's original trauma, but any variation on the monsters becoming an issue such that the bridge has to be cut would be better than "they're about to cross but let's cut it before they make it because monsters might make it across before they get a chance". maybe some monsters actually overtook them and Touma has to fight through some of them in front, or some are throwing ranged attacks with reach that's starting to hit the other side, things which actually puts some pressure onto choosing to cut the bridge.

this one just feels incredibly cheap and badly justified by comparison.
