Indeed, it's quite refreshing. Honestly, this manga is undoubtedly generic and tropey in many parts (even the art, which I quite like), but there are things that are pleasant enough for me to keep reading. For example, the aspect of subverting a trope you mentioned (I also hope it stays this way, especially after he worked together with others like this), plus I like how Leonora showed her true colors to them pretty early on.
Or maybe this is just my kind of trash - I've just realized that possibility lol.
