It is so obvious that the Priestess is the one who is controlling the monsters. I'm guessing as a way of forcibly raising the levels of the heroes that are summoned.
Honestly, it's nice that even if they are mostly assholes, they don't immediately go "save myself" and abandon others when they're in dangers, these dudes are alright
