From what I remember of reading the novel, words are all from the novel, but women spontaneously losing clothes and making sexy poses in the presence of MC are not.
Apparently, the artist is a woman, and she's been told this manga needs fanservice, but she is not familiar with the standards for fanservice in manga for guys, so it ends up being more lewd than normal.

For the crew of that ship though, it just seems rather peculiar to have sailors who can't swim. That should be part of the basic requirements for that kind of job.

Back in the Age of Sail, it was unusual for sailors to be able to swim. Most of the time, there is no shore to swim to, so swimming just means suffering for longer.
Also, some sailors could swim - they were the ones who swam to the shore and told about the explosion.
