Not just hate, he actively wants to stop but he can't. And it's likely not even the same as any point we've had where it was just a shitty job. This is closer to military drafting. He can't quit.

It was already established that they get super well off even as third rates, so think of it like working at some off shore oil rig where just a few months already gets you years worth of money or something like that. He's already there, he probably is already well off, and once he can quit this adventuring gig he can take a more laid back job to just coast off of a mixture of his savings and whatever new income he gets.
