Get someone else to do it, there are never enough translators while there's no shortage of people that can clean, typeset & proofread. A translators time is precious and shouldn't be wasted on other work.
Well anyways, I think some cleaners make use of photoshops 'content aware fill' or 'generative fill' to get rid of text over illustrations, and in more simple cases (like just a screentone behind it) the 'clone tool' or 'healing tool' is used. Though sometimes redrawing may be the only option. Alternate approach, which not everyone will appreciate (claiming it's lazy) but I still think is still valid, is to not edit it at all and put the translation in the margin. Saves time and preserves the art, and fancy font. Also there are some scanlation tutorials on MD (
like this, note the redraw chapters) and there's the
scanlator forum for questions.
Disclaimer: I am not involved in scanlation, so take what I've said with a grain of salt.
