I approve of MC not simping for the girl. Suddenly, I find this manga more interesting. The first chapter I read was chapter 9 because of the masked guys crazy story. Didn't think I'd get into the rest of it because I saw someone say that the MC was kinda pathetic when it came to the FMC.

But now that I see where things are headed, I think I'll go back and read all the chapter I skipped. :-D

This is a rare occurrence in manga if I'm being honest, the author is spoiling us by making the mc change his simping ways.

Though it should be noted this is the same author for boys abyss so be prepared to be frustrated by the characters in future chapters

Yeah this is starting to pick up. Why can't all these people just leave him alone though.

She changed her approach a bit in these introductory chapters, but we all know it will still all be pain and suffering all the way through. We're already seeing the hints here with Roka's message revealing that the cancelled baseball thing was a ploy to give the girl an excuse to go with Mikoma. And of course the lady next door (the one with the silverleaf) complaining about the town's dating scene...

Why would you start a series with chapter 9? XD Guess it worked here but usually you're bound to be confused like this.

Saw a page from the chapter posted elsewhere and it got me curious. Wasn't expecting to find it this interesting. 🤷‍♂️

Mikoma ain't stoppin simpin bc he grew balls, but bc he a psycho incel who got influenced by leafbro's story (that, depending on this series length, may be played straight or have different versions and layers) and got edgy bc leafbro said it's okay to hate what he hates. But it's not only Momiji. He's starting to turn against his family.

The interesting shit is Mayu's reasons to not return to Tokyo. If she's bored of the male population in that town bc of being mostly old, the logical choice should be coming back to Tokyo, but seems she aimin' for some young and fresh colagen. Last pages gave me heavy abyss Yuri vibes. Difference is that Mayu seems to have experience while Yuri was a 29yo virgin when she started grooming Reiji.

Your post made me think that some of the characters here seem like they're meant to be parallels for some of the ones from Abyss, with somewhat different roles in the plot - I'm getting the feeling that in some cases they're intentionally written to be their Abyss versions' exact opposites. So far we have gotten a Yuri like you said (Mayu). IMO Leaf Man is going to serve as Peak's Esemori, Roka will be Gen, and Momiji will be Sakuko.

Once again I'm not saying they will play the exact same roles like the ones from Abyss or that this is a bad thing, just that they seem to be intentional parallels. When you think about it, Reiji's appearance and general characteristics are also the exact opposite of Mikoma's. Definitely curious on what will Ryou do with this cast.

Word used.
Opinion safely discarded. :)
I mean, dude began simpin and when he didn't get the results he wants, he started resentin and then,
after influenced by leafbro, goin edgy against the girl.

Textbook definition of an incel

The curious thing is that there's technically not a direct parallel/opposite of Nagi... yet. Otherwise, Mikoma would've had some emotional and moral containment and won't be showing his unhingement this early. Mikoma neither is 100% drawing things from Reiji other than the dormant psychopathy and resentment, but other than that, Mikoma comes as more arrogant and entitled, and Ryou usually likes to recycle core themes, especially what lies behind appearances. Miko comes off more as young Akira in this series at times.

Momiji seems to draw a lot from Yuuko (being some sort of queen bee) and Chako (being bored of her town and wanting something exciting to happen) but Roka seems to be a composite of Uryuu (the dude who took Yuuko from Akira) and Gen's gay feelings for Reiji.

I like your interpretation of the parallels/contrasts/reused themes. Nagi was always there since Abyss' chapter 1 so I'm also curious as to why no one has showed up to serve as Peak's Nagi. If Ryou is planning to have Momiji (or worse, Mayu) also serve as the Nagi-esque character, I think it will be quite lame. As for why I think it could be Momiji, it's because Nagi was the very first female character we see in Abyss just after page 1, and Momiji is the one we see in that position here.
