One of the most difficult feat to pull off as a writer to me is being able to write emotional story with subtlety. Examples of emotional stories that ooze of "this story was written to bait out your tears" are Shigatsu, Angel Beats, Byousoku 5 cm or The Fault in our Stars. Characters in these works are defined by their tragedy instead of tragedies merely shaping their personality. Comics like this makes me feel warm inside. It has none of the pitfall of the aforementioned tear baits. While tear baits can be emotional, it's similar to using fart joke in comedy to me.
