It’s pretty interesting that the wickedness of the universe or of the stars can't allow such bright love to flourish. From this story, we can say that either Aya or Erika can be considered as the STAR (aka the hindrance) of that “relationship”.

I am calling it now. Erika either killed Aya or did something to make her disappear. She has motive and knew where Aya was going and at what time. She did not seem sad at the reunion either. She was more observing.

It'd probably because a) they're starving for representation and b) it brings something fresh to the fairly stale love triangle tropes.

As for the rest. I don't think its murder. My bet is a tanabata wish was involved. Something along the lines of "make aya disappear"
