@Xeredge Hmm, I wouldn't say it's the extreme torture. My theory is, Akane really regretted what she did (and even forgave before she died) and as thus, repented and was ready to move on. The priest on the other hand, truly believed he was saving the people he tortured. But his followers probably only wanted to torture people for the sake of it, under the guise of purification but really were just violent sadists. I might be wrong though.
