So the main protagonist still wants to get rich and live comfortably in the modern world right? Does she even go back there anymore? She could turn her land into an economic powerhouse with modern tech... etc... sigh...

@BoredHero she decided long ago not to bring anything too modern that could cause social chaos. For example, she could bring in the genetically selected crops and lifestock along with the entire modern agricultural methods, but she could end up ruining the lives of the traditional farmers (which is probably like half of the total medieval population) of that world, making them lose their job. This is why Mitsuha only sells knick-knacks or consumable products in her store. It's what makes this story different to Takarakuji.

Besides, it's not like it's going to be too hard for Mitsuha to get to her goal before old age.

Why do people here equate conscription with communism? Even true democratic society enacted conscription one time or another.
Besides, the way she does it is, get the people some training then put most on rotating reserve most of the time doing their usual jobs, unless they volunteer to be soldiers full time.

@BoredHero : She does go back to her modern world all the time, it is just that most (but not all
for example the mercenaries took some spoils ad photos leak online which causes some international issues, though I love how she trolls the Russian operatives in that arc
) of the story takes place in the medieval world.
She will being in a few specialty products to sell and develop her territory, but nothing that they can not maintain with their current technical levels.

Looks more like a militia force than a draft to me, especially the part where even women are included in martial arts training.
It's rather elaborate for a small territory that this militia force is trained and commanded by professionals/regulars and is organized by a bureaucracy.

Conscription on the other hand will either yield an insignificant number of soldiers, or basically kill off their entire economy (they only have 600 people). Conscription implies drafting into the regular army. Regular soldiers have full-time duties and don't take shifts between drills and standing by in the barracks and working in the fields. The only regulars proposed by Yamano were the commander and the sub-commander.

basically she's saying that everyone in her territory be part of the national guard/reserves, only that their annual training period will prolly be a month or 3 rather than 2 weeks

Egyptians farmers were had to help building pyramids and such when it was flood season (can't remember when that season was) or periods they can't work on land. I understood what mitsuha proposes is kinda the same
