This is the first manga explanation book I've read that left me more confused and less understanding of the subject material.
It was certainly... Something... When the author decided to include the actual DSM-IV symptoms right next to their mangazation, so I could directly see them misinterpret it - for example, "reserved" and "embodies a strange atmosphere"are not mentioned in the diagnostic criteria. Likewise, the author's "has no interest in sex" and the DSM-IV's "interest in shared sexual activities is slim, if any" may *sound* similar, but the latter's language is careful and distinct, while the former leaves room for confusion.
This is one of those things that, rather than bringing light to an lesser known topic, will leave a lot of anxious or socially insecure types thinking their shyer personalities are an indication of a personality disorder. Too much of these symptoms are described in ways that fall completely within the realm of neurotypicalness - "I don't like big crowds and lots of talking" "I get tired after eventful social activities""I space out." It feels too broad and generic to help with personal identification, especially since most of these involve schizoid-chan interacting with her friend(s), after all the emphasis on her allegedly being unable to do that. Most of the comics don't deal with symptoms that would stand out as unusual.
Idk, I came away from this thinking "so we're calling introverts schizoids now huh"
