I think Fushimi and her friend should kiss. In chapter 5.5, when they were teens, Fushimi seemed pretty affectionate. It didn't help that the hug had shoujo sparkles with it too. They both seem very familiar with each other, as being friends from at least high school through college would dictate.

I don't think they're sisters, as Fushimi's friend was likely making a joke then, perhaps having adapted to Fushimi's constant humor. Unless they're twins or one of them skipped a grade, there's also no way they would have been in the same year in high school.

They could just be good friends, which would fit with the tone of the manga pretty well. But it's interesting how Fushimi was vague when people asked if she had friends, which could've been trying to separate work and life. But Fushimi hasn't been shown to separate work and life that much, with work seeming like her life (at least from what we've seen so far). I don't think Fushimi and her friend would be dating yet, as Fushimi lives alone. Fushimi as a character does give off some gay vibes to me, and her friend even more so. If I saw them as a couple in a yuri manga, they wouldn't be out of place at all. They'd probably actually be more grounded than most. They look the most like a couple on page 5. They've got all the characteristics of a yuri couple too: light-haired, energetic woman and dark-haired, calm woman. Fushimi's hair is even that orange-pink shade so many yuri protagonists have.
They might already be a yuri couple, not in the common sense, but in the Miyazawan sense. There's a sense that there's far more to their relationship than what's directly stated. We know they're friends, and have been since high school, possibly younger. They're comfortable enough around each other to plan to go out drinking and knowledgeable enough about each other to where one of them being an hour late is marked with a simple "That's unusual." There's no questioning about why Fushimi's late, what could cause it, or if she just wants to cancel. Merely an acceptance. They've hugged, too, with Fushimi hugging her friend as a teen eliciting an expression of surprise (but not disdain). Fushimi's friend seems, at worst, to be the straight man (ironic when I'm talking about lesbian shipping) to Fushimi's comedy act.

Going back to Miyazawan yuri, that term might be confusing, but it refers to yuri as discussed by Iori Miyazawa, the author of Otherside Picnic in the interview titled "Yuri Made Me Human." There, he posits that yuri isn't just about platonic, romantic, and sexual relationships between women, but rather can be extended to not just any relationship between women, but any potential relationship between women or situation that could lead to, or even resemble, one. An empty bench separated from a field of waving golden grass by a thin road is yuri. It could be the possibility that two girls will walk down the road and rest on the bench, tired, and possibly choose to rest on each other as they stare at the grass and realize that they want to stay like this. It could be yuri between the bench and the field itself, the bench so close to the field and nature, but barred from that freedom by the shackles of civilization and purpose, represented by the road. That's advanced yuri, though. Even I can't fully articulate what I view the yuri as, though maybe that's just because it's past midnight.

Anyways, enough of the explanation. Here's my interpretation of their relationship. Fushimi and her friend are close. They have been for a while. Fushimi's friend (who I'll just call FF from now on) knows that she really likes being around Fushimi. She feels partially responsible for Fushimi, as she's one of the only people who can take Fushimi's jokes and run with them in good stride. Fushimi's humor is usually performative for other people, intended only to get them to laugh or learn. But when the two of them are together, it's just natural. It's what they are, not as individuals, but as a pair. And they are a pair, they got through college without falling out of contact due to an effort by them both to stay in touch, not by chance. They didn't live together during that time, as they didn't go to the same college. They don't like together now either, obviously. Maybe it would be easier that way. They do understand each other better than they understand pretty much anyone else. Fushimi hasn't really thought about it much, she's doing fine on her own. Maybe she's putting it to the back of her mind, but ever since a student brought it up, she has at least considered what it would be like to live with someone. FF is the person she's closest to, so it's only natural she was the first person Fushimi thought of. When FF thinks of living with someone else, it's usually Fushimi. But again, they are pretty good friends. FF doesn't want to push anything onto Fushimi though. It's hard to get Fushimi to talk when she doesn't want to, as she'll just deflect with humor or switch to a different topic. If she does push through, what happense then? Will Fushimi come to dislike her, or be worried about opening up? She knows Fushimi doesn't want to burden others with her own negative emotions, but sometimes FF thinks it would be nice to have Fushimi leaning on her. In a strictly figurative sense, of course. She does, sometimes. Small worries, though sometimes it's something with a bit more substance to it. But never enough for FF to feel like she's actually supporting Fushimi. It's always nice when the two of them can go out to eat. There's always at least one thing to talk about (the food), and if Fushimi ever starts backing away in conversation, there's a few ways out. FF can also feel like she's actually supporting Fushimi when she offers to pay, too.

Anyways, I'm getting tired. That was a snapshot of their relationship and the context leading up to it in this moment, so you can extrapolate how it'll progress from there however you like. If you prefer to just read them in the actual manga as good friends, there's nothing wrong with that. That's all that canon supports right now anyways. I'm just giving my interpretation (I am yuri poisoned. And also might want to gay kiss Fushimi a bit myself). If FF gets a boyfriend reveal or they do turn out to be sisters, I'm gonna end up looking real stupid. I might end up writing a fanfic about these two (surprisingly would be my first time writing fanfic. writing it down instead of just imagining it in my head, rather). Anyways, thanks for reading my yuri essay.

That is a lotta words for something that's barely even in the story yet. I know this site is run by Dynasty Scans people, but good god, some of y'all yuri fans need to take a hammer to your goggles already, or at least lower the strength.
