So it's a manga about 2 guys making manga about SCP but the guys don't really know what SCP is and the SCP foundation doesn't appear in it at all? Who wanted this? Why make manga about SCP if youre gonna turn it into a generic horror manga? Wait actually why make manga about making a manga about SCP and they turn it into a generic horror manga?

This better have some twist at some point because 2 dudes drawing manga about SCP while ignoring what makes SCP an SCP doesn't seem that interesting in the slightest. Screwing around with the meta for meta's sake seems kinda lame without proper payoff.

i really wanted to like this, but it's just basic illustrations of some SCPs with a metanarrative of two guys introducing the SCP universe
too much source material is lost and nothing is gained from them adapting scp articles; they don't try to make a tale or anything

This is pretty frustrating to read as an SCP fan, because while it shows potential, it feels like the manga is taking away almost everything that makes SCP articles special (for me at least). The report format is thrown out the window, every SCP covered somehow feels more generic than in the original article (I'm guessing the fact they don't include the SCP foundation's perspective at all in the story is partly to blame for this), etc etc. Honestly if they wanted to stick to more conventional stories, they should've just adapted some tales.

Currently up to chp.4 as of writing this, and I'm really hoping there's a plot twist where the manuscripts written so far get rejected and the 2 protagonists learn that they failed to understand SCP's writing style and revise their manuscripts, but I'm pretty sure that's not going to happen.

I like the meta narrative though, and I think it's a pretty good way to introduce context for readers unfamiliar with how SCP community and website operates (Though admittedly I am a sucker for metanarratives).

Ironically, Oversimplified SCP does a better job at introducing SCP and its brand of absurd horror than this manga (as of chp.4, hopefully that changes), despite its more comedic and unserious tone and art imo. I highly suggest reading that instead to anyone who's interested in an introduction to SCP's writing style, or watch TheVolgun or The Exploring Series on YouTube.

ok, So I wasn't the only one who considers this manga to not be a good way to present SCP. In my opinion, most of the issues with it comes down to the way its written. One part is trying to explain SCP for new people, another goes into the manga making process, then you have the actual manga within the story (in my opinion the best part) and then the fourth part is the mystery of where the "Name (TL note: when talking about name in this part ONLY means storyboard)" comes from.

It's obvious that the writing is way too scattered within these 4 aspects, so the best part is the one the author adapted from actual SCP articles. Starting for the "introduction to SCPs", I think this is not a good way to introduce people into SCPs, the blond dude is knowledgeable about it, but ends up giving lacking explanations that obviously give the other dude more questions than answers, then, this black haired dude tries investigating on his own, but ends up purposely not understanding anything. Even if somehow it is related to the mystery part, it just ends up being frustrating.

In terms of the manga making part, it goes heel deep into the process, mainly setting the stage for the SCP conversation and the mystery, so it feels like wasted time that could be used for the mystery part, which is the second-best part as it handles the metanarrative well enough. I can't really criticize the mystery yet, since it is just beginning, but It does make me wonder what will happen with specific SCPs that have heavy involvement with the foundation, if the manga itself goes long enough.

So good news, the latest chapter at the time of this comment (Chp.5) is starting showing some promise, and going in a potentially very interesting direction. Also the
use of a tale, as opposed to a numbered article
makes the adaptation feel more natural.

EDIT: Okay so it looks like the manga is getting better
I think Chp.6 and Chp.5 has proven to me that the author knows how to adapt SCP into a manga much better than the initial chapters suggested. I especially liked how the author messes with and exploits the structure of manga and the author afterword sections to tell the story. I'm a bit more optimistic that the initial chapters were just red herrings and there might also be a metanarrative happening involving M and H. Looking forward to this much more now.
