There was literally no need for that pronoun game at the beginning of the chapter if the character was going to explain what "that" was in the same chapter; the antagonist could have just said the name of the item.

These characters are too irrational. It was stupid as fuck for the duo to attack this group head-on. They brazenly made an enemy out of them when there was a chance for them not to have been targeted at all. There were so many ways to go about it and they made the dumbest choice.
