@erichanchan @Nixnaw Well, maybe the emperor is not at fault but MC's own kingdom's ruler? I mean, they refused to negotiate and made the emperor angry. The emperor took the princess as hostage as to avoid an all out brawl, but the princess's husband rushed in there like an idiot and got himself killed.
In these sorts of wars there are really no good or bad sides. The emperor is as much at fault as everybody else.
As understood from the first chapter, they were talking about opening up a route. So they are not really looking to invade but looking towards development. Maybe they went through something and opening up that route would greatly help them but their ruler doesn't want to help them.
You know, usually in negotiations both sides offer something, so they were not really the bad guys since they did wanna do it peacefully at first. And refusing to negotiate caused them to invade, that just shows how important this was to them that they went with it regardless of the consequences.
Anyway, he's the ML so he's probably got his reasons...as all MLs do.
