Honestly, it looks like whatever is there is friendly, seeing how the boy is perfectly fine. Maybe all the adults that know about it are just wimps about spooky things and thus do not know it is actually harmless.

Just a little trivia:
Even if a ghostly/supernatural entity isn't particularly malicious, letting children interact with them is still ill advised, for two main reasons.
1- If for any reason, someone tries to interfere with their interactions, even if the entity doesn't harm the child, it'll harm (or even kill) the one interfering, or even consider the interference an act of betrayal from the child and attack them too;
2- As portrayed, the child comes and goes freely, but in time, the entity may grow attached and decide to one day just not let the child leave anymore (in fear of the child not coming back anymore).

Remember kids, supernatural entities are very volatile, if you encounter one, please contact the adequate authorities, in accordance to your belief system, or the responsible government branches.

This is true. One really must be careful when dealing with such things. Some things genuinely are rather harmless if you are respectful to them, but sometimes things can go wrong. With ghosts, it's often best to help them move on, as lingering can be bad for them.
