Are you REALLY surprised?!
Are we even reading the same thing? I have pointed this out in chapter 2, the moment they dropped the name: it's like he was named "Johnathan" or "Olaf" and you are "Wait, so she wasn't really a woman"?
What about "Yuri", is it a man's name or a woman? If you ask a Russian, they would probably say it's a man's name, but if you ask a Japanese, they would probably say it's a woman's name How about "Chris", or maybe "Aulia".
My point is, a name that is maybe in some places is considered a man's name, might be a woman's name in other part of the world. Or maybe that name is so rarely heard outside of say, Italy, that most people that don't know "Ciro" is a man's name, will get blindsided by this revelation. So it's not really a surprising thing.
