For him to chose someone to return with, but I think the previous generation hero took the woman who was meant to be goddess, caused a screw up with evolution. I think the recent incident is to ensure his DNA gets left behind when he leaves.

E.g. pick lily but if Talia and lupina are pregnant it ensure if either chose as goddess, evolution would return to normal. Of course could also be a case of getting multiple pregnant, therefore not want to leave world, in that case a harem ending is more likely
