@sandrascarlet she needs to become the top courtesan to find out about her parents deaths and obviously she can’t be a courtesan and have a fiancé or husband who’s trying to take her back

Won't she able to do that with the help of fiancé dude? He seems from a big family and cares for her.....
The courtesan being able to figure out who and why is but a slim possiblity....I don't know why the adults around her just approved....and by adults I mean Riichi and lord

@Sandrascarlet Ironically, a courtesan has much more freedom than a woman married to a samurai. If she gains a top position it means her customers will be men in high positions of power, give them some sake and good sex and its easy to pry information out of them. It also minimises risk of harming others such as her fiance by having him do the work she wants. I understand the logic. Married noble women in the Edo period didn't really have any freedom and certainly did not have an easy way to spy and stuff.
