Alright, it's explanation time.
There is an enormous amount of intricacies in the Japanese that simply do not translate to English, so consider this some form of very extended TL/N.
There obviously exists two Kaede's, the one from before her memory loss, and the one post memory loss; for simplicity's sake, we'll refer to them respectively as Kanji Kaede (花楓, K-Kaede), and Hiragana Kaede (かえで, H-Kaede).
It's important to remember that those are not simply two personalities, but two completely full-fledged individuals with different memories, desires, needs, etc. H-Kaede is thrown into K-Kaede's body without much warning, does not know who she is, and immediately is expected to be K-Kaede, which she does not know. She doesn't know her family either, or anyone around her. This immediately causes severe body dysmorphia: she is inhabiting a body that for all accounts is not hers, it's K-Kaede's, and she's only passing through.
The only person who ends up seeing through this is Sakuta, which is why he tells her to write her name in Hiragana (かえで) as opposed to the normal Kanji way (花楓), as a way to separate both Kaede's (this is also why we left the original name from the raw on page 17 and only added it below). This is easy to see in the Japanese speech, but virtually impossible to translate.
Here's a small segment from page 14 which gave us some problems notably, because the differentiation was made in how her name was written, but this cannot show in English:
A more or less direct translation would be more akin to "That's because Kaede// is not 'K-Kaede' // but is 'H-Kaede' // instead."
You may also have noticed that in the past chapters, Kaede always spoke to the third person. This is not a quirk we decided to inject or a coincidence, as Kaede uses her own name (かえで) as a personal pronoun, instead of using a more traditional form of "I" like 私/watashi. For the first part of this chapter, she uses watashi until this segment where Sakuta acknowledges that she's not the same Kaede, at which point she switches to using "Kaede" instead. This is often used either by young children or by people trying to have a "cutesy" appearance; in this case however, it is almost certainly a way for Kaede to identify that she's more or less only inhabiting a body that is not hers. A lot of her struggles refer to figuring out what K-Kaede really wants, and making sure that she is not setting her back while she's inhabiting her body (some of that is visible at the end of this chapter).
All in all, Kaede is extremely intricate to TL, and we're doing our best to make sure we can distinguish between both of them.
