Translators have mistaken “brother-in-law” to include step-brother.

A brother-in-law is the husband of one's sibling or is the brother of one's spouse.

It feels too similar to
https://mangadex.org/title/14569f2f-f66a-4c67-ac7f-a37823a0fa23/villains-are-destined-to-die
You think I have that much of a garbage taste to read the same premise over and over again??
Yes. Yes I do :02:

Bring them shitty family, shitty fiance, shitty life fictions to me!!
I will read almost any villainess story to be honest. I'm a guy yet I enjoy watching these ladies boss their way out of flags lol. Plus the series with fmc are usually romance at some point and that's the genre I started manga for.

Seconding the brother in law comment.
Japanese language use 義 as a catch-all term for "in-law", "step-", or "adopted". E.g 義兄 can be adopted brother, stepbrother, or brother in law. Context is what will inform you of which translation to use, so translators have to be careful with this.
