I wish there was at least one color page, they speak of her hair being discriminated by but kinda hard to see it. Also just me or did the writing seem kinda jumbled up a bit?

Pretty sure she has red hair... Red hair isn't normal in japan with a bunch of brown/black hair... Also the time period helped set the ton even further with trade with foreigners opening up and all
