Started reading this manga after being pleasantly surprised at how good its anime was...it's a bit impressive how much worse the manga is. So many of the touches that elevated the anime adaptation are lacking here, like how the show spent almost its whole first episode establishing the MC's cred as an assassin in his original life, or the bizarre naked kata inspections set to ominous cello music, or how there was a date episode for the MC and Dia before he gets told he needs to "assassinate" her so the moment has more impact. Everyone in the manga comes across as more vapid and nonthreatening than in the anime, and the character designs and art in general is much worse.

Since a S2 is apparently supposed to air at some point I think I'm just going to watch that instead of reading more of the manga.

I'm curious if "Lugh" came from the original author. Such things are known to happen. Actual names like that exist, but they are spelled differently:

Hugh
Lew
Ryu

English, man.

How can someone with absolutely no talent — neither for writing nor for drawing (the bastard probably can’t even draw properly) — manage to have so many of his stories illustrated by professional artists and even get them published, when most of them are extremely bad, clichéd, and completely shallow?

This guy, with generic ideas and no artistic skill whatsoever, is living proof that mediocrity is praised, while truly talented and original people rot in obscurity. How does someone so undeserving get so much spotlight, while those who actually have something meaningful to say are completely ignored?

Assuming you're not just being a contrarian, sometimes just the run of the mill, cliche stuff is all people want.
Why was SAO so popular when it came out? It had the right timing.

And honestly, the story here isn't even that bad. It's no master piece, but it's perfectly serviceable for a casual read.
Not everything will be a Full Metal Alchemist, and it doesn't have to be.
Just let people enjoy things, even if you think they're bad or stupid. The people enjoying them might think the same.

Also this story doesn't have deeply problematic elements beyond the common problems of reincarnation, which it addresses practically and relatively tastefully. Honestly, the thirst of the women (cough, MOTHER, cough) around MC is way more problematic than his own conduct.

BTW, the latest chapter got finished.

Got me interested enough to read the light novel. For my fellow degens out there, there are some major cut content.
My boy Lugh is a certified banger, and has been for quite a while.
After the party where the dark skinned lady pulled Lugh aside to talk, Dia accuses Lugh of being a boob baboon. To prove his love to Dia, he carries her off to bed and gets banging. The next day, Tarte is visibly jealous and Dia gives them a chance to be alone and get banging.

Unfortunately, these scenes are usually short and not very descriptive, leaving everything to the imagination. Its like this for all future sex scenes, UNTIL VOL 8. For SOME REASON, vol 8's sex scenes are VERY HORNY, descriptive, hot and steamy. I was bamboozled, like I did not know the author was capable of such lewd scenes until i remembered, his writing of redo of the healer hero probably influenced it. Very welcomed changed, gave me satisfaction for sticking around for so long.
