Guys...there's such a thing as a manual lock that the driver can't control. Hence why he had to lean across her to get the door open. My family used to have a car with them and it was super easy to accidentally lock the door while trying to open the handle if you weren't paying attention. I even took that old car to college with me and had to lean over the passenger on one trip to get her out just like this manga shows. Or, alternatively, he hit the lock before closing the door when they first got in. I've reread that scene several times after reading the comments and don't see him intentionally locking her in at all. The translation doesn't depict this with word choice and neither do any of the facial expressions.
