K so I just read the article, they're basically using the "loli hentai is material for pedophiles" card. Instead of banning ecchi shows, why not start social services to help actual pedophiles stop liking nonfictional children?

Not to mention that 80% of anime and manga feature teenagers which means that banning ecchi shows pretty much bans half of everything, especially when you consider beach episodes.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the senator had skeletons in his closet. Most of the time these people are hiding something far worse. But seriously Eromanga-sensei, SAO, and Goblin Slayer as examples? I could think of better examples. I’m surprised they didn’t use series like berserk, angel cop, violence jack evil town, devil man, interspecies reviewers, high school dxd, etc if they are trying to make a point. (Granted the series mentioned above are just examples As I enjoy a bunch of those series I mentioned) But overall It’s another “ThInK AbOuT ThE ChIlDrEN” argument. It will overall fall on deaf ears because of trying to censor something they don’t like.

Personally I think the whole matter is ridiculous. There will always be fan service no matter the genre of anime. Im in agreement with dan that almost every shonen series has a beach episode. Will they ban all anime because of that? Dear Lord, they would have a a possible heart attack or brain aneurysm if they discovered hentai.

Quite frankly, all the arguments about how these genre/materials encourage immorality (pedophile, killing, rape etc.) in real life are so stupid. No, I'm not going go on a killing sphere simply because I've been playing CoD, I'm not going to suddenly be into incest and all that gangbang or mass killings because I read GoT, I'm not going to turn gay because I watch Sailor moon with Sailor Uranus and Neptune a couple, or that I'm going to be a cannibal because I watch/read Hannibal series and I like the MC, and yep, reading loli/shota manga doujinshi or heck, reading Ban making love with Elaine in Nanatsu no taizai etc isn't going to make me like real living children any more than I am currently, which I don't, least a pedophile. If you have problems differentiating between real life and fantasy/2D materials, go consult with professionals and seek help. If you see your friends showing behaviors like that, reach out to them as well and try to help them. Senators and lobbyists or whoever should make it less of a stigma and easier for people to see psychiatrists and raise awareness of mental disorders rather than putting the blame on media (not just manga, anime) like this.

Any piece of literature can carry a age recommendation mark. Parents can make attempts to know what the kids are reading... there are ways to get some kind of control, if needed.

Those shows arent as recent and popular in the west as compared to eromanga, goblin slayer and sao. That's probably why they don't even know of the existence of them.
