I don't even recall any other series where the censor bars are this obnoxious.

I immediately remembered something at least that bad happening not too long ago. Square Enix Manga Up, here is a sankaku article. Sankaku Article It was really bad I think some youtubers talked about it. There was some really stupid examples where skin wasn't even shown.
